Melvin unsure if Gray will pitch again in 2016

OAKLAND — A’s right-hander Sonny Gray has yet to resume throwing, and it’s unclear if he’ll pitch again this season.
Gray is receiving treatment for muscle strains in his forearm while allowing fluid buildup in his elbow to subside. Only when the inflammation diminishes will he be able to begin a strengthening program, putting a throwing schedule “a ways away,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said.
Gray, who finished third in American League Cy Young voting last year, has endured a rocky encore, pitching to a 5.74 ERA across 21 starts in a season that’s …
