Stripling recalled to give Dodgers a fresh arm

ST. LOUIS — The Dodgers optioned left-handed reliever Grant Dayton to Triple-A Oklahoma City and recalled right-hander Ross Stripling on Saturday.
Dayton was called up Thursday and made his Major League debut Friday in the 16-inning loss to the Cardinals, pitching two scoreless innings.
Stripling had Tommy John surgery in 2014 and began ’16 in the Dodgers’ rotation, but he was sent down May 23 so the organization could limit his innings. He had pitched 45 2/3 innings in eight starts for Los Angeles with a 4.53 ERA before going down.
Stripling, who was scheduled to start for OKC on Saturday, believes he’ll be used out of the bullpen.
“It sounds like I’ll just be used as availability out of the bullpen,” he said. “It’s not something I’ve done a lot of, but it’s something I’ve done enough to have an idea of how to approach it.”
He has a 3.78 ERA over 16 2/3 innings for OKC, making four …
