Betts, Sox optimistic about speedy recovery

BOSTON — Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts was out of the starting lineup against the Twins on Saturday for precautionary reasons involving soreness in his right knee. Betts is getting treatment and is day to day, but the club is optimistic about a speedy recovery.
Betts’ MRI came back negative and there is no structural damage to his knee.
“He did go through an MRI that structurally, everything is sound,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said. “There are no cartilage issues. Some slight swelling that’s in the area. And we have to work to get that out of there. Day to day is the status. It might take a couple [of days] until he gets back to us. Everything points to this being a short-term situation.”
