Wilson’s solid effort not enough vs. Red Sox

BALTIMORE — Boston homered three times, including Marco Hernandez’s first career Major League homer, to back a complete-game effort from knuckler Steven Wright in Monday’s 7-2 series-opening win over the Orioles at Camden Yards.
Hernandez went deep on Orioles reliever Mychal Givens, belting an 0-1 pitch for a three-run homer to give Boston some insurance in the top of the eighth. David Ortiz hit a solo homer earlier in the frame and Jackie Bradley Jr.’s leadoff sixth-inning homer gave the Red Sox a lead they would never relinquish. Red-hot shortstop Xander Bogaerts also extended his career-long hitting streak to 23 games.
The victory puts Boston two games ahead of Baltimore in the American League East standings.
Orioles starter Tyler Wilson went 6 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs. Wright pitched his third complete game of the season — which is tied for the most in the Majors — and lowered his ERA to 2.45 as he continues to roll.
