Cubs drop series to Brewers as run-scoring struggles continue

MILWAUKEE — The Chicago Cubs really thought their late Wednesday night victory over the Milwaukee Brewers would have a carryover effect to the next day. But Thursday’s offensive output wasn’t any better than the previous few games; the Cubs scored early in the game for the first time in a while but added very little late in dropping the rubber game of the series 5-3.
Calling it a grind for the Cubs to score runs right now would be an understatement — their four-game total stands at eight. They’re 1-3 in those games, with the lone victory coming after escaping a sure loss with a Houdini act on Wednesday in 13 innings.
