Daniel Murphy returns to Citi Field as visitor for first time

NEW YORK — Former New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy returned to Citi Field on Tuesday for the first time since signing with the Washington Nationals this past offseason.
“It’s different coming in on the visitors’ side,” said Murphy, who was drafted by the Mets in 2006 and spent the entirety of his career with New York until inking a three-year, $37.5 million deal with Washington last Christmas Eve. “But man, a lot of great memories in this stadium.”
Among the highlights was a magical playoff run in which Murphy led the Mets to their first World Series appearance since 2000, homering in a record six straight postseason contests. During New York’s four-game sweep over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series, Murphy hit .529 with four home runs and six runs batted in. For his efforts, he was named MVP of the NLCS.
