Darrel Lewis The biggest surprise of round 9 in Dominos League was guest Thor AK’s (5-4) road victory over 5th ranked Njardvik (4-5) 105-94 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Njardvik. The game without a history. Thor AK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 62.3 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Thor AK especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO) who scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Danero Thomas (196-86, college: Murray St.) chipped in 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Jeremy Atkinson (193-90, college: NC-Asheville) who recorded 31 points and 7 rebounds. Thor AK have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place. Njardvik at the other side dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Thor AK are looking forward to face Keflavik (#11) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Njardvik will play against IR (#10) in Reykjavik and is hoping to win this game. An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Stjarnan. Second ranked Stjarnan faced 4th placed Grindavik. Host Stjarnan (7-2) defeated guests from Grindavik (6-3) 75-64. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Grindavik. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was a good game for the former international power forward Hlynur Baeringsson (200-82) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Devon Austin contributed with 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech) answered with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for Grindavik. Stjarnan keeps a position of league leader, which they share with KR and Tindastoll. Grindavik at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Stjarnan will play against Haukar (#8) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Grindavik will play at home against Tindastoll (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Bottom-ranked Snaefell (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 95-78 loss to ninth ranked Haukar (4-5) in Stykkisholmur on Thursday evening. Sherrod Wright stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. The best for the losing side was Sefton Barrett with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Haukar moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Snaefell still closes the standings with nine games lost. Haukar will meet at home league’s second-placed Stjarnan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Snaefell will play against the league’s leader KR (#1) in Reykjavik and hopes to get finally their first victory.A very interesting game took place in Reykjavik. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked Thor Thorl (4-5) to eleventh ranked IR (3-6) 74-72 on Thursday evening. Quincy Hankins-Cole nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Thor Thorl’s coach Einar Johannsson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. IR moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Keflavik. Thor Thorl lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. IR’s next round opponent will be higher ranked Njardvik (#6) in Njardvik and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. The game with biggest result difference took place in Keflavik. Local Keflavik (3-6) was outscored by third ranked KR (7-2) 106-80 on Friday night. The best player for the winners was Darri Hilmarsson who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Tindastoll and Stjarnan. Keflavik lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with six games lost. KR will face bottom-ranked Snaefell (#12) in Stykkisholmur in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Keflavik will play on the road against Thor AK in Akureyri and hope to win that game. In the last game of round 9 Skallagrimur was crushed by Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur 97-75.
