JanisLasmanis This is still too early stage of the Regular Season in LBL2 and we should expect many changes in upcoming rounds. Round 9 most important game was a victory of Ogre/Kumho Tyre over 4th placed Livani 82-62 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Ogre/Kumho Tyre. Livani managed to win fourth quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ogre/Kumho Tyre dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Livani’s 30. Ogre/Kumho Tyre forced 22 Livani turnovers. It was a good game for power forward Janis Lasmanis (199-87) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Davids Atelbauers (180-99) contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Forward Eduards Viksna (198-93) answered with 9 points and 13 rebounds for Livani. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ogre/Kumho Tyre maintains third place with 6-4 record having six points less than leader Kekava. Livani at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Saldus. Ogre/Kumho Tyre are looking forward to face Jekabpils II (#6) on the road in the next round. Livani will play against BJBS Riga and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident. Important game to mention about took place in Jelgava. Second ranked Jelgava (9-2) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 3rd placed Limbazi (7-3) 80-79 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Limbazi. Swingman Edgars Krumins (194-86) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Kalvis Krumins chipped in 6 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Jelgava’s coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was forward Inguss Immers (194-93) with 22 points and 4 assists. Jelgava have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-2 record having just two points less than leader Kekava, which they share with ViA. Limbazi at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They share it with Marupe. Jelgava will play against Saldus (#4) at home in the next round. Limbazi will play against the league’s leader Kekava and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riga: RSU (#2) and RTU (#3). RTU was defeated at home 78-86 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Rihards Ginters nailed 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Karlis Helmanis came up with 16 points and 9 rebounds for RTU in the defeat. RTU’s coach Dainis Bertans rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. RSU (9-1) keeps a position of league leader. Loser RTU keeps the third place with five games lost. RSU will meet at home Madona (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. RTU will play against the league’s second-placed ViA (#2) in Valmiera and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Riga: LU/BS Riga (#5) and RTU (#3). LU/BS Riga (4-6) won against visiting RTU (6-5) 65-61. The best player for the winners was Adrians Snipke who scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. LU/BS Riga moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Valmiera/ORDO-2 and Buki/BJSS. RTU at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. LU/BS Riga’s supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riga to the arena Buki/BJSS. An interesting game for Turiba (11-0) which hosted in Turiba second-best Marupe (7-3). Leader Turiba had an easy win 92-67. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Marupe. It was a good game for Rihards Adins who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Turiba’s coach Ziedonis Jansons felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Turiba. They maintain first place with 11-0 record, which they share with Kekava. Loser Marupe keeps the second position with three games lost. Turiba will face Jekabpils II (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Marupe will play against Valmiera/ORDO-2 (#5) and hope to win that game. There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: DSN/SB was smashed by ViA on the road 102-57. Madona was destroyed by ViA on its own court 63-85. Saldus unfortunately lost to Limbazi in a road game 53-70. VeA recorded a loss to Jelgava at home 75-88. Kekava crushed VEF skola on the opponent’s court 100-65. Turiba – Marupe 92-67An interesting game for Turiba (11-0) which hosted in Turiba second-best Marupe (7-3). Leader Turiba had an easy win 92-67. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Marupe. The game was mostly controlled by Turiba. Marupe was better in second period 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Marupe’s 32. Turiba forced 19 Marupe turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for power forward Rihards Adins (200-94) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Davids Muiznieks (196-94) contributed with 22 points and 4 assists for the winners. Turiba’s coach Ziedonis Jansons felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Point guard Arturs Kramins (177-88) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and guard Roberts Paze (193-95) added 18 points and 4 steals in the effort for Marupe. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Turiba. They maintain first place with 11-0 record, which they share with Kekava. Loser Marupe keeps the second position with three games lost.
