Norway – BLNO Round 4: Nidaros Jets lose to Ammerud

Ronald Timus It’s still too early stage of the Regular Season in BLNO, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.The biggest surprise took place in Oslo where host Ammerud Bskt (1-3) edged league’s leader Nidaros Jets (4-1) 70-67 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Nidaros Jets. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Nidaros Jets won third quarter 22-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Ammerud Bskt won last quarter 17-15. American forward Ronald Timus (196-84, college: Morgan St.) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Guard Samuel Amed Diomande (193-88) chipped in 18 points. Kenya Earl Simba (204-92) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds for lost side. Ammerud Bskt left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Asker Aliens. Nidaros Jets at the other side still keep top position with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Froya Basket who have the same record. Nidaros Jets will play next round against Baerum Basket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Ammerud Bskt will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Tromso on the road. The game had a very big importance for fourth-ranked Froya Basket as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader’s (Nidaros Jets) loss. Froya Basket defeated 5th ranked Baerum Basket in Laksevag 90-86. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Jamell Harris (206-91, college: E.Michigan) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Ivan Emanuely contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. point guard Stian Mjos (183-89) replied with 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for Baerum Basket. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Nidaros Jets. Baerum Basket at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. Baerum Basket will play next round against strong Nidaros Jets trying to get back on the winning streak. Froya Basket will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Gimle BBK at Bergen. A very close game took place in Bergen between Gimle BBK and Baerum Basket. Sixth ranked Gimle BBK (2-1) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Baerum Basket (2-3). Gimle BBK managed to escape with a 3-point win 77-74 in the fight for the fifth place. Worth to mention a great performance of Magne Fivelstad who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds. At the losing side Stian Mjos responded with 31 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gimle BBK moved-up to fifth place. Loser Baerum Basket dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Gimle BBK will meet league’s leader Froya Basket in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Baerum Basket will play against the league’s second-placed Nidaros Jets (#2) in Tromdheim and hope to secure a win. Leader Nidaros Jets delivered the fourth victory. This time they beat bottom-ranked Persbraten (0-3) 82-65 in Oslo. The winners were led by Evan Roquemore who scored that evening 27 points and 4 assists. Persbraten’s coach Axel Langaker rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Nidaros Jets have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-1 record, which they share with Froya Basket. Newly promoted Persbraten still closes the standings with three games lost. Nidaros Jets’ next round opponent will be Baerum Basket (#6) in Bekkestua where they are favorite. Persbraten will play at home against the league’s leader Froya Basket and hopes to get finally their first victory.Bottom-ranked Tromso (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 85-61 loss to fourth ranked Centrum (3-1) in Oslo on Saturday evening. Torgrim Sommerfeldt fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Centrum’s coach Inge Kristiansen felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 3-1 record. Loser Tromso still closes the standings with four games lost. Centrum will face Asker …
