KerronJohnson There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Regular Season in TBL. There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.MKS Dabrowa Gornicza smashed TBV Start at home 92-72. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. 33 personal fouls committed by TBV Start helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kerron Johnson (183-90, college: Belmont) who scored 21 points. Naturalized Ukrainian Vitaliy Kovalenko (204-84) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. American power forward Brandon Peterson (204-90, college: Arkansas St., agency: Inception Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. TBV Start will play next round against Krosno trying to get back on the winning streak. MKS Dabrowa Gornicza will try to continue on its current victory against Twarde Pierniki in Torun. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Rosa (2-1) in Radom. Hosts were rolled over by Twarde Pierniki (2-0) 86-64. The former international swingman Bartosz Diduszko (198-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points. Kyle Weaver contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Forward Damian Jeszke (200-95) replied with 10 points and 8 rebounds for Rosa. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Twarde Pierniki will play against MKS Dabrowa Gornicza on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Rosa will play against Trefl (#11) in Sopot and hopes to get back on the winning track. A very close game took place in Koszalin between Energa Czarni and AZS Koszalin. Energa Czarni (1-1) got a very close victory on the road over AZS Koszalin (0-2). Energa Czarni managed to escape with a 3-point win 83-80 on Friday evening. Jerel Blassingame scored 27 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Darrell Harris responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Energa Czarni will meet at home Asseco (#13) in the next round where they are favorite. AZS Koszalin will play against AZS Polfarmex in Kutno and hope to win that game. A very interesting game took place in Ostrow Wlkp.. It ended with only three-point home defeat of Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (0-3) to Trefl (1-1) 73-70 on Sunday evening. Anthony Ireland notched 17 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort. Stal Ostrow Wlkp.’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. Trefl’s next round opponent will be Rosa (#5) in Radom and it may be quite challenging game. Stal Ostrow Wlkp. will play on the road against Stabill (#15) in Tarnobrzeg and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game with biggest result difference took place in Zielona Gora. Local Stelmet (2-1) outscored Stabill (0-2) 94-67 on Wednesday night. The best player for the winners was Julian Vaughn who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Stelmet’s coach Artur Gronek felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Stelmet will face Polpharma (#9) in Starogard in the next round. Stabill will play at home against Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (#17) and hope to win that game. Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are: Krosno defeated Asseco in a road game 83-70. PGE Turow smashed Polpharma at home 83-57. Szczecin lost to Anwil on the opponent’s court 82-91. Asseco – Krosno 70-83There was no surprise in Gdynia where Asseco (0-2) was defeated by Krosno (2-1) 83-70 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Krosno. Asseco was better in third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Asseco 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Swedish-American guard Chris Czerapowicz (201-91, college: Davidson) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. American power forward Kareem Maddox (202-89, college: Princeton) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Four Krosno players scored in double figures. Krosno’s coach Michal Baran used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. International guard Filip Matczak (187-93) produced 18 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-84) added 19 points respectively for the hosts. Krosno will face TBV Start (#16) in Lublin in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Asseco will play on the road against Energa Czarni in Slupsk and hope to win that game.
