Serbia – 2MLS Round 2: Pirot hands first loss to Radnicki 1950

Lazar Rasic There were only 2 rounds played so far and it’s still very beginning of the Regular Season in 2MLS. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Radnicki 1950 (1-1) in Kragujevac on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Pirot (2-0) 82-81. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 24-19 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Pirot made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Forward Lazar Rasic (196-87) saved the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Dusan Filipovic (188-92) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Forward Nikola Kostic (202-96, agency: BeoBasket) replied with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for Radnicki 1950. Pirot is looking forward to face Velika Plana (#14) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Radnicki 1950 will play against Proleter Naftagas (#7) in Zrenjanin and it may be a tough game between close rivals. An interesting game for KK Jagodina (2-0) which hosted in Jagodina Mladost SP (1-1). KK Jagodina managed to get a 4-point victory 91-87. Montenegrin guard Nikola Vujicic (185-89) scored 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Zarko Krivokapic chipped in 15 points and 4 assists during the contest. Swingman Stevan Tapuskovic (209-89) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Mladost SP’s coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn’t help. KK Jagodina will play against Futog (#11) in Tupanjac in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mladost SP will play at home against Kolubara (#12) to get more than just one victory in their record. The game in Cajetina was also quite interesting. Vojvodina NS (1-1) played at the court of Zlatibor (2-0). Zlatibor did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 99-81 on Saturday. Petar Maric notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 22 points and 5 rebounds by Stefan Stojacic did not help to save the game for Vojvodina NS. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zlatibor will meet Napredak in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vojvodina NS will play against Boljevac and hope to win that game. A very interesting game took place in Velika Plana. It ended with only two-point home defeat of Velika Plana (0-2) to Sloboda (1-1) 79-77 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Strahinja Mladenovic who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sloboda’s coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Sloboda’s next round opponent will be Srem (#13) in Sremska Mitrovica and are hoping to win another game. Velika Plana will play on the road against Pirot and hope to win that game. There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Napredak beat Srem on the road 75-71. Boljevac won against Futog on its own court 78-72. Proleter Naftagas managed to outperform Kolubara in Zrenjanin 82-78. Srem – Napredak 71-75No shocking result in a game when Napredak (2-0) beat Srem (0-2) in Sremska Mitrovica 75-71. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-16. But Srem won third quarter 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 26 personal fouls committed by Srem helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Nikola Raicevic who scored 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Aleksandar Miladinovic chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Napredak players scored in double figures. Forward Djordjo Djordjic (198-78) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Rajko Radinovic (181) added 20 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Napredak’s next round opponent will be Zlatibor (#4) in Cajetina. Srem will play on the road against Sloboda (#9) in Uzice and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
