Poland – 1Liga Round 4: GKS Tychy records their first victory

TomaszBzdyraAfter 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the 1Liga and who belongs to weaker ones. The round was exceptionally exciting as three games ended with a tiny margin. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with favorites losing the games, games ending by tiny margin and even winless team recording their first victory.GKS Tychy has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Pogon Prudnik (2-2) 81-73 on Saturday. Pogon Prudnik trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 23-15 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 73-81 at the end of the game. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Tomasz Bzdyra (200-83) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Radoslaw Basinski (188-78) who added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. GKS Tychy’s coach Tomasz Jagielka used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Tomasz Prostak (188-88, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 22 points and 7 rebounds. GKS Tychy (1-3) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place, which they share with AZS AGH Krk. and Znicz Basket. Pogon Prudnik at the other side keeps the eighth position with two games lost. They share it with Biofarm PZN and Notec Inowr.. GKS Tychy is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Rosa II Radom (#16) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Pogon Prudnik will play against Nysa Klodzko (#15) and is hoping to win this game. 1Liga top team – Sokol Lancut (4-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fourteenth ranked Nysa Klodzko (0-4) in Kloszko 90-73. The winners were led by power forward Maciej Klima (203-82) who scored that evening 18 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and Marek Zywert supported him with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Even 19 points and 5 rebounds by forward Maciej Muskala (196-96) did not help to save the game for Nysa Klodzko. Sokol Lancut have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Spojnia. Nysa Klodzko at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Astoria Bydg. and Rosa II Radom. Sokol Lancut will play against AZS AGH Krk. (#11) in Krakow in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nysa Klodzko will play on the road against Pogon Prudnik and hopes to get finally their first victory.Bottom-ranked Rosa II Radom (0-4) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their fourth consecutive match to eighth ranked GTK Gliwice (3-1) 58-55 on Sunday evening. Grzegorz Podulka fired 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. GTK Gliwice’s coach Pawel Turkiewicz allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Mateusz Szczypinski produced 20 points for lost side. GTK Gliwice moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Rosa II Radom still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Astoria Bydg. and Nysa Klodzko. GTK Gliwice will meet at home Znicz Basket (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rosa II Radom will play against GKS Tychy and looks forward to get finally their first victory.Bottom-ranked Astoria Bydg. (0-4) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their fourth consecutive match to fifth ranked SKK Siedlce (3-1) 72-61. It was a very good performance for Rafal Krol who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. SKK Siedlce moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Astoria Bydg. at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. SKK Siedlce’s next round opponent will be Legia W-wa (#3) in Warszawa, which may be the game of the day. Astoria Bydg. will play on the road against the league’s second-placed Spojnia (#2) in Stargard and looks forward to get finally their first victory.The game in Poznan was also quite interesting. Top-ranked Spojnia (4-0) played at the court of 7th ranked Biofarm PZN (2-2). Spojnia managed to secure a 9-point victory 70-61 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of Marcin Dymala who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds. Biofarm PZN’s coach Przemyslaw Szurek rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn’t help. Spojnia have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Sokol Lancut. Loser Biofarm PZN dropped to the eighth place with two games lost. Spojnia will face Astoria Bydg. (#14) in Bydgoszcz in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Biofarm PZN will play on the road against Kotwica (#6) in Kolobrzeg and it may be a tough game between close rivals. There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Notec Inowr. was destroyed by Legia W-wa on the opponent’s court 85-62. Kotwica managed to outperform AZS AGH Krk. in a home game 73-71. Znicz Basket recorded a loss to Polonia Leszno on the road 79-77. The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points by Piotr Robak of Legia W-wa.Biofarm PZN – Spojnia 61-70The game in Poznan was also quite interesting. Top-ranked Spojnia (4-0) played at the court of 7th ranked Biofarm PZN (2-2). Spojnia managed to secure a 9-point victory 70-61 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 70-61. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Spojnia made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Marcin Dymala (188-90) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds and forward Hubert Pabian (200-89, agency: Promotex) who added 10 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Spojnia players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Adam Metelski (206-83, college: Cal-Irvine) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Piotr Wieloch (182-94) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds.
