Results of the study focusing on reasons for women’s abandonment of canoeing to be presented in Catoira

Catoira (04/10/2106) – The VI Congress of Coaches in Sprint Canoeing in Spain will take place next week in Catoira (14-16 October 2016). An important part of this year’s congress will be gender perspective and many of the congress’ topics will deal with this issue. One of the things presented and debated during the congress will be the results of the study focusing on the reasons why women quit canoeing at a younger age and at a higher percentage than men. The study was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Sports.
The project conducted by the specialists of this sport, including Marta Felpeto, an ECA Board Member and member of the Committee on Women and Canoeing of the Spanish Canoe Federation, did not solely focus on the causes but also advised on the measures which need to be put in place to stem the women’s abandonment of canoeing.
