Alex Bowman gets another chance to fill in for the injured Dale Earnhardt Jr. this week in the Pure Michigan 400. Bowman was tabbed by Hendrick Motorsports to drive the No. 88 University of Michigan-sponsored ride this weekend as Earnhardt Jr. continues to recover from a concussion. “I’m just so glad to be here with HMS and I hate that it’s under these circumstances,” Bowman said. “Obviously we’re wishing Dale a quick recovery and hope he gets back in the car soon. I’m thankful for Axalta and the University of Michigan for putting some faith in me and letting me be here and drive their race car today.” Bowman turned in an impressive qualifying effort in Friday’s session and will start sixth in Sunday’s race.
