Lawrie returns to Chicago, set for re-evaluation

CHICAGO — Brett Lawrie has returned to Chicago from his rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham and will be re-evaluated Monday. The White Sox should have more information on his status early next week.   The White Sox second baseman left early from last Wednesday’s contest with the Barons and then departed after four innings Saturday in a return to the lineup. Lawrie has been battling a strained left hamstring, which has been described as an injury more in the knee area, but was said to have exited Wednesday’s contest with quad soreness.

“He’s going to have to play a full game to be able to get back here and know you’re going to play,” White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “Until he gets to that point where he can get enough of the innings that we need — and all our guys can do that, whether it’s [Avisail Garcia] or even when Alex [Avila] goes out — you’re going to have to be able to …
