Phelan: Hull must make signings

Hull caretaker manager Mike Phelan admits the club have left it late for transfers and must secure signings imminently.

The club have failed to bring in many new players this summer having only signed two youngsters during the current transfer window, with Steve Bruce reportedly having left due to frustration with a lack of transfer activity from Hull’s owners. 

A group of Chinese investors hoping to buy the Yorkshire club attended Hull’s opening day win over last season’s Premier League champions Leicester City, according to Sky sources, but Phelan urged the club not to wait on adding new recruits as he takes his threadbare squad to Swansea on Saturday – with time quickly running out.

“We have one owner, and it’s the same one,” Phelan said at his press conference ahead of Hull’s game against Swansea on Saturday. “We are trying to work together to try to improve things at this club. It’s not easy.

“It’s always difficult when as late as we are. We are actively trying to bring players in but time is getting short. I said last week that this could be a big week for us but not a lot has happened. It doesn’t mean to say we haven’t done anything in terms of phone calls and searching for players.”
