Whitley activated off DL, optioned to Double-A

ST. PETERSBURG — Rays pitcher Chase Whitley completed his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery on Tuesday night. He was activated off the disabled list and optioned to Double-A Montgomery.
Whitley’s 30-day rehab window finished after he threw six scoreless innings for Class A Advanced Charlotte on Tuesday. The reason for optioning him, Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said, was so he could get innings that might not be available to him at the Major League level.
