Here’s a look at top prospects to watch Wednesday in Minor League action:
Mejia streak watch: Indians No. 4 prospect Francisco Mejia aims to extend his 48-game hit streak as Lynchburg visits Potomac at 7:05 p.m. ET.
Hitter to watch: Corey Ray (Brewers’ No. 3), Brevard County at Lakeland (1:00 p.m. ET)
After going 0-for-11 over a three-game span, Ray got back on track with a 2-for-2 day Tuesday. However, just as the No. 34 overall prospect was getting his swing back, the game was called early due to rain. Ray, the Brewers’ first-round selection, will look to build on Tuesday’s performance when his team gets back on the field against the Flying Tigers. The 21-year-old is hitting .227 through 35 games.
Pitcher to watch: Tyler Beede (Giants’ No. 2), Richmond vs. Trenton (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Beede’s past two starts have shown why he was a first-round selection in 2014 and the 23-year-old is looking for more of the same. Beede has given up one earned run on eight hits over his past 13 innings. The right-hander has been solid all season, posting a 3.06 ERA through 19 starts.
Duel of the Day: Trevor Clifton (Cubs’ No. 8) vs. Trey Ball (Red Sox’s No. 14), Myrtle Beach vs. Salem (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Clifton carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning the last time he took the mound. In his last start, Clifton tossed 68 of his 97 pitches for strikes and didn’t walk a …
