NASCAR Notebook: Victory Celebrations Reviewed

NASCAR may consider limiting victory celebrations that severely damage racecars.
Post-race celebrations like Denny Hamlin’s display at Watkins Glen International, that caused significant damage and might impair the inspection process, are under review by the sanctioning body.
“It’s a trend we don’t like,” NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O’Donnell said on Tuesday’s edition of “The Morning Drive” on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “We want to see a celebration and we think drivers can celebrate without doing that. So you’ll probably see us put something in place that covers us for that as you head into the last quarter of the season. We’re talking to a lot of teams, but everybody’s on board with the direction we want to go in.”
Hamlin’s celebration was the latest example of a practice that’s happened across NASCAR’s top three divisions in recent months.
