USA and Mexico looking to take control of pool C

Rio de Janeiro, August 9, 2016 – Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena of the United States and Mexico’s Lombardo Ontiveros/Juan Virgen are both looking to take control of pool C with their second win and advance to the elimination stage.
Head to Head
Lombardo Ontiveros/Juan Virgen have won two of the three previous meetings between the two teams on the FIVB World Tour. The Americans won the first match in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Fuzhou Open in April, and the Mexicans won the next two, both in pool play, at the Porec Major in July in three sets and one week later at the Gstaad Major in straight sets.
Historically the #3 seed has won two of the three pool play matches against the #15 seed in the Olympic Games, winning in London (2012) and Beijing (2008) in straight sets, and losing in Athens (2004) in three sets. The two seeds have also met in the bronze medal match in Beijing (2008) and the semi-finals in Sydney (2000) with the higher seed winning both matches.
