Five-Star Ghana see off Burkina Faso

Ghana gave their qualification hopes a huge boost after beating Burkina Faso 5-1 in the second round first leg clash on Sunday in the coastal city of Cape Coast. The Black Starlets came from behind to record one of the biggest wins by the a Ghanaian youth team in recent times to put a foot at the next round. It was the visiting Les Etalons Cadets shot who into the lead after just ten minutes to stun the home crowd. Striker Razak Junior profited from a blunder by the Ghana backline, raced into the box to coolly put the ball past onrushing goalkeeper Michael Acquaye for the first goal. The goal came against the run of play as it was the Ghanaians who were all over and dictating the pace of the game, but failed to bury the chances that came their way. The host responded with attacking raids into the opponent’s halve but still lacked the firepower upfront. Their efforts however paid off in the 21st minute, with the equalizer coming through Emmanuel Toku who fired home from a Rashid Alhassan assist from close range. It was all Ghana at this stage and they jumped into the lead with the second goal on 39 minutes through Eric Eyiah. Just before the break, Burkina Faso coach Seraphine Degari made his first substitution pulling out Bazie Yves Yierouda for Sawadoug Aboubakar. ‘Les Etalons Cadets’ resumed stronger piling pressure on their host leading to a succession of corner kicks in the opening minutes of the second half. Eyiah scored his second of the day on 52 minutes before Gabriel Levah took the game beyond the visitors with the fourth goal on 72 minutes. …
