Edwards Gives Glen Repave High Marks

Carl Edwards found his way around Watkins Glen International’s road course just fine on Friday, but it took him a while to get up to speed on the newly paved circuit.
“We changed the car a little bit and it took me a little while to get used to the new pavement,” said Edwards, who ran fourth in Friday’s opening practice as preparations continue for Sunday’s Cheez-It 355 at The Glen. “I don’t remember all of my old marks. I ran over the curbs wrong a couple times and I found some slick spots on them. That was fun! Hopefully, I can remember my marks tomorrow in qualifying.”
Edwards covered the 2.45-mile natural road course at 125.654 miles per hour in his No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota during Friday’s first session. Teammates Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin also were fast as Camry drivers grabbed four of the top five spots on the speed chart.
