Allmendinger Back at Watkins Glen

AJ Allmendinger is in a “must win” situation Sunday at Watkins Glen International in order to make the Chase.
Although the JTG Daugherty Racing driver is 21st in the Sprint Cup Series point standings heading into the Cheez-It 355, realistically he needs to repeat his Glen victory of two years ago to make a return trip to the Chase.
The good news is Allmendinger is good at the twisting Upstate New York road course.
“It’s no secret, I love this racetrack,” Allmendinger said. “I love road-course racing.”
The Glen has a bit of a different look since Allmendinger’s popular win in 2014. A repaving project has impacted the racing surface and will provide new challenges. But there’s more good news on that front for Allmendinger. He was one of a number of drivers that tested at the Glen recently and believes that experience will benefit him greatly.
