Turner seeks Shergar repeat

Hayley Turner can barely contain her enthusiasm ahead of her 10th appearance in the Shergar Cup at Ascot on Saturday.
Britain’s most successful female rider retired at the end of last season but hot on the heels of being awarded an OBE in June, Turner answered the call to make a mini-comeback for the Girls team at the annual riders’ competition, replacing injured Australian rider Michelle Payne.
Turner has warmed up for her return with a handful of recent rides and spoke with our reporter Ashley Iveson about how she is hoping the girls can complete back-to-back victories having landed the competition for the first time in 2015.
AI: Going back 12 months, just how special was it to be part of the first girls team to win the competition?
HT: Last year was just fantastic and I think because we won it last year, we can go into this weekend with no pressure and just go for it again.
Emma-Jayne (Wilson) was part of the team last year and it’s been great to meet up with her again in the last few days.
Unfortunately Sammy Jo (Bell) is injured this year and I was gutted for Cathy (Gannon) to miss it for the second year in a row.
