Lawrence apologizes to Cowboys for drug ban

OXNARD, Calif — DeMarcus Lawrence said everything you’d want a player facing a four-game suspension to say.
He said he apologized to his teammates during OTA practices. He accepted responsibility for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse drug policy, and publicly apologized to his coaches and the Jones family.
He vowed to learn from his mistake. Then he promised to live up to the potential he showed at the end of last season, when he began emerging as a star with eight sacks in the last nine games.
“I got a chip on my shoulder. You have to play like that when you know you let the team down for the first four games.”

“I ain’t gonna lie,” Lawrence said after Sunday morning’s practice in his first public comments since his suspension was announced. “I did feel guilty but God puts you through things for a reason. I just see it as a blessing to open my eyes with a little fortitude.
“I got a chip on my shoulder. You have to play like that when you know you let the team down for the first four games.”
The question, for the Cowboys, is whether he’ll actually learn from this suspension, which will cost him $230,151. …
