I wasn’t the greatest student in my academic years. Not terrible, but let’s just say my name wasn’t a fixture on the honor roll.
Like most average students, there were classes and subjects I enjoyed more than others. History was not on that list.
The funny thing about history is that it’s seldom appreciated until well after it occurs. I guess that’s what makes it historical. I told you I wasn’t the best student.
My point is this: while something that will – at some point – have its spot in the annals of history is happening, there’s a good chance of under-appreciation. Only later, through the prism of time, does the comprehension of the special nature of the accomplishment take place.
