- Updated: July 26, 2016
HOUSTON — Alex Bregman, one of the Astros’ most anticipated prospects in recent years, made his Major League debut in Monday night’s 2-1 loss to the Yankees at Minute Maid Park. Bregman was in the lineup at third base, batting sixth.
“It’s fun. It’s exciting. That’s what you dream about doing, you dream about getting to the big leagues and dream about being in the postseason,” Bregman said in a news conference on Monday afternoon. “You can tell these guys are are excited, excited to be here. I’m just excited to be here in the big leagues.”
Bregman made some sharp defensive plays early in the game, including handling a chopper behind the third-base bag in the second inning and turning a double play to end the third. He finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
“It’s a dream come true,” Bregman told MLB.com before the game. “And I’m ready to go work, keep my mouth shut and hopefully help contribute.”
