Are tennis tournaments holding more importance for players than the Rio Olympics?

The Rio Olympics may represent prestige and honor for world class athletes, but many tennis players consider it a one-shot deal without benefits. America’s John Isner ranked in the high teens withdrew early from playing Rio not hardly mentioning the Zika virus as a reason, but a few more factors as the most important — no ranking points given to tennis players and a stacked schedule of tournaments to adhere to. Novak Djokovic ranked number one in the world cited the point (of no ranking points given) saying “I don’t see a reason why not…we have the best players in the world…it’s of that importance for all of us…” He also mentioned that if the Olympic committee gave ranking points it would give big name players some incentive to play Rio.

Some consider the Olympics basically known for track and field and swimming as well as gymnastics, with tennis being not the major sporting event to see; but the Doubles team Bryan Brothers do not see it quite that way. They’ve earned 4 medals already but yearn to be a part of the Games because they feel it may be their last year , so it’s very important to be there. Touring tennis players know that when they play their regular tournaments whether it’s a major or ITF, they all get some kind of ranking points going towards helping them to elevate their level in the tour.
