Roger Federer withdraws from Toronto, Bencic won’t play Montreal

After Andy Murray, Rogers Cup loses another top player: it’s Roger Federer, who won’t play Masters 1000 of Toronto next week. The World No. 3 wants to be as fresh as possible at the Olympic Games where he will play singles, doubles and mixed.
‘Looking ahead, it is best for me that I take more time after Wimbledon – Federer wrote on Facebook – I look forward to coming back to Canada next year and I wish Karl Hale and everyone at Tennis Canada a very successful tournament.’ It’s the second year in a row where Federer withdraws from Rogers Cup.
