Arcia among top prospect performers Wednesday

Alex Reyes was expected to be a dominant force on the mound in 2016 and every time he’s taken the ball, he’s lived up to the hype.
The No. 11 overall prospect (Cardinals’ No. 1) got a late start to the year because of a suspension that was handed down in the Arizona Fall League, but Reyes has been making up for lost time by carving his way through opposing lineups.
Reyes put his talents on display Wednesday night as he led Memphis to a 3-2 win with six innings of two-run ball. The 21-year-old right-hander gave up just two hits and struck out 11.
In three starts this season, Reyes has struck out 26 hitters and allowed just seven hits in 15 innings.
The rest of the best performances from top prospects Wednesday:
• Rain was the only thing able to disrupt Tyler Glasnow’s rhythm Wednesday. The Pirates’ top prospect fired five no-hit innings, but left the game after a rain delay. The No. 8 overall prospect picked up his fifth win as Indianapolis beat Rochester 2-0 and improved to 5-2 with a 2.07 ERA this season. However, Glasnow did issue four free passes and threw just 38 of his 74 pitches for strikes.
“I feel a lot better in the stretch than I do the windup. I have the past couple years,” Glasnow said. “It was hard for me to figure out the rhythm of the windup, and I was trying not to think about it, but once I went to the stretch, everything felt good. All my walks came in the windup. I’ve definitely got to refine that.”
• Brewers’ No. 4 Orlando Arcia had quite the day at the plate as Colorado Springs swept a doubleheader against Omaha. Arcia, the No. 4 overall prospect, went 5-for-7 and has a hit in each of his past six games.
• Bobby Bradley (Indians’ No. 3, No. 87 overall) went 2-for-3 with a homer and a pair of RBIs in Lynchburg’s loss to Wilmington.
• For the second time in as many days Roman Quinn (Phillies’ No. 7) led off the game with a home run. The No. 93 overall prospect later doubled and finished Reading’s win 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
