Steve Simon: ‘Players have too much financial dependency on the Grand Slams’

Players’ priority seems to have changed over the years. Grand Slam titles allow the top-ranked players to enter the history books, and for the lower-ranked players, they help earn some good money even if a player were to lose in the first-round in the main draw.

At Roland Garros, this year, the total prize money is $32 million. Those who lost in the first round earned $37,000, players, who lost in the second and third round earned $65,000 and $102,000 respectively.
