Mariners to call up Paxton on Wednesday

SAN DIEGO — James Paxton was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Tacoma and is expected to be activated by the Mariners on Wednesday, raising questions about the availability of Felix Hernandez, who is in line to start Wednesday night’s series opener against the Padres at Petco Park.
The Mariners had no comment on why Paxton is joining the team, though the club did confirm he is expected to be added to the 25-man roster on Wednesday, with a corresponding roster move to be announced at that time.
