Teenagers crowned with Grand Slam glory (PART 2)

After stories about first 5 teenagers that won Grand Slam title in Open era (read it HERE), Tennis World USA presents you second part with another 5. From Stefan Edberg in Australian Open 1985 all the way up to Rafael Nadal in 2005 Roland Garros, they all wrote tennis history after some epic wins and withstanding physical and mental obstacles to go all the way and lift trophy.
1985 Australian Open / Stefan Edberg : We are staying in 1985, adding third Swede to this immortal list when Stefan Edberg won Australian Open. His rival in the final was Mats Wilander and this was first all-Swedish Grand Slam final and also 3rd youngest in the Open era, as they were on the average age of 20 years and 7 months. Also, another page of tennis history was written when they made final, guaranteeing all 4 Majors will be won by European players for the first time since 1934 (Perry and von Cramm). Sweden, small tennis country by any means before mid 70’s, was blessed with 3 all-time-great players born in less than 10 years, and as we can see they all managed to win Grand Slam before turning 20. Australian Open was played for the last time at famous Kooyong stadium, switching to Melbourne Park and January term since 1987. Stefan Edberg, a magician at the net and proud owner of one of the best volleys in history of tennis, had a breakthrough season in 1984 (before that he became the first player in history who won all 4 junior Grand Slams in 1983), at the age of 18, winning first ATP title in Milan (beat Wilander in the final) and entering Top 20, with even bigger things to come in 1985.
