Michael Bell strikes at Redcar

A review of the action from Redcar where Cheval Blanche provided Michael Bell with a first juvenile winner of 2016.

Michael Bell celebrated his first two-year-old winner of the campaign as Cheval Blanche came with a late flourish to make a successful debut in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies’ Novice Median Auction Stakes at Redcar.

In what was also a first victory for her American sire Stay Thirsty, the 4-1 shot was produced to challenge on the outside of the field by Jamie Spencer and knuckled down to beat more experienced rival Mightaswellsmile by a short-head.

The Newmarket handler said: “This is the first two-year-old filly that we have run but we have got some others that have also been going quite well.

“We have had this race in mind for a while. She has got a very good attitude and an engine to go with it. She will get further in time but we will stick to six furlongs for the moment.

“It was tough for the two year-olds today as there was a strong headwind, but she showed a commendable attitude.
