Gray set to throw from mound in injury rehab

OAKLAND — A’s ace Sonny Gray is making strides in his rehab from a right trapezius strain and is slated to throw off the mound for the first time since suffering the injury on Saturday.
Gray played catch without any issues on Thursday and Friday, setting him up for a 35-40 pitch bullpen session.
“He felt good yesterday and felt even better today,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said Friday. “We’re confident enough to have him throw a bullpen tomorrow.”
The right-handed Gray is expected to throw several bullpen sessions before the A’s determine his next step, which could be a rehab start. …
