Tigers’ Zimmermann (groin) eyes Tuesday return

OAKLAND — Detroit Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann is optimistic he will be able to return to the mound next week.
The 29-year-old pitcher has been encouraged by the progress made since the weekend and hopes to avoid the disabled list for the Grade 1 groin strain suffered in Sunday’s game.
“I think so, but the real test, like I said, is going to be Sunday, when I’m going to have to push off and get on some, [a] little elevation to see how it is,” Zimmermann said, talking for the first time since he was forced from Sunday’s game.
