American Rogers, ranked 108th, upsets Kvitova

PARIS — American Shelby Rogers, ranked 108th in the world, has reached the fourth round of the French Open, beating two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova on Friday.
Rogers reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time by playing much more cleanly than the 10th-seeded Kvitova at Roland Garros.
The 23-year-old from South Carolina made half as many unforced errors (36 to 18) as Kvitova and was broken only once.
American Sloane Stephens still has yet to play Friday, and Serena and Venus Williams play their third-round matches Friday.
