Chirinos set for BP, on track for June 9

ARLINGTON — Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos, on the 60-day disabled list with a broken right forearm, said he felt good after hitting soft toss Tuesday and will take batting practice on the field in the next few days.
Manager Jeff Banister said the plan is for him to return on June 9, the first day he’s eligible to return from the disabled list.
Chirinos fractured the forearm after getting hit by a fastball from Angels right-hander Garrett Richards on April 9 and Tuesday’s game was the 40th he had missed.
“I saw the X-rays today, and it was all clean,” Chirinos said. “When you get injured, you worry about it, so when you see the X-ray and see it’s 100 percent, it’s a good feeling.”
Banister said the team has a schedule of simulated games for Chirinos to undergo, starting with seven innings on Wednesday and working up to nine by Sunday. If the simulated games go well, the next step will be a rehab assignment.
“It’s similar to what we do with pitchers, to get his legs engaged and have him move around,” Banister said.
