Palhares on his knockout loss: ‘I was hit with illegal elbows in the back of the head’
- Updated: May 24, 2016
It’s not a Rousimar Palhares fight without some sort of post-fight controversy. When he wins, there’s plenty of uproar over his repeated holding onto submissions after referee intervention. In fact, he’s suspended for 2 years by the NAC for this exact offense, in addition to the eye-gouging in his fight vs. Jake Shields. When he loses, as he did to Nate Marquardt, he makes greasing accusations.
Enter last Saturday’s stunning knockout loss to Emil Weber Meek at Venator FC 3. Palhares’ undefeated welterweight run came to an abrupt end when the Norwegian slammed home some big elbows whilst defending a takedown, then ended the fight in just 45 seconds with a series of right hands. For a refresher, here are multiple angles of the finish. (Via Zombie Prophet)
