Bellator’s Chandler not sad to see Brooks go, but ‘wanted to win the belt from him’

The Bellator lightweight division has had trouble finding consistency. From 2009 to 2013 it was ruled over by Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler. Alvarez won the belt back in the second half of a fantastic two fight series with Chandler, and then (after a protracted legal dispute) he left. Alvarez took off for the UFC and left a vacant title in his wake. And that’s when the trouble really started for Chandler.
He was the obvious choice to battle for the vacant title, stepping in to face rising prospect “Ill” Will Brooks. Brooks took a narrow split decision and the belt. In the rematch, Brooks knocked Chandler out. Now Brooks is gone too. Most likely headed for the UFC as well, this time without the legal jockeying that tarnished Alvarez’s final months, and leaving a vacant lightweight title in his wake.
