Notes: Canelo, All-Star Boxing trial opens in Miami

A few notes from around the boxing world:
• Five years after All-Star Boxing promoter Felix “Tuto” Zabala Jr. filed suit against Golden Boy Promotions and lineal middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez in Miami-Dade circuit court in Florida in early 2011, the trial opened on Monday morning with jury selection. Zabala contends that he signed Alvarez to a four-year promotional deal in 2008 and that Golden Boy interfered and stole the fighter. Golden Boy denies the charges. Zabala is seeking millions in punitive damages. There have been many postponements and delays getting to the trial, which surprisingly wasn’t settled. Nonetheless, Zabala, Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy vice president Eric Gomez, Alvarez, manager Jose “Chepo” Reynoso and trainer Eddie Reynoso were all present when the trial opened at the Miami Dade County Courthouse before Judge Migna Sanchez-Llorenz.
