2016 NCAA Division II Women’s Championship: Pirates defeats Seasiders to win the 10th national title!

Regency Athletic Complex in Denver was the place of the final crucible in 2016 NCAA Division II Women’s Championship, with 3rd seeds Armstrong State Pirates battling with top-ranked BYU-Hawaii Seasiders for the national title. In the end, the Pirates, defending champions, prevailed 5-3 to win their 10th national crown, delivering the first loss of the season for the Seasiders! Both teams have dominated in the Division this season, with Armstrong State finishing at 32-1 while BYU-Hawaii drops to 25-1, not being able to win only this final match. Thus, the Pirates’ domination in the NCAA continues, as they won the 4 of the last 5 and 7 of the last 9 championships. The final started well for the Pirates with Nicole Fossa Huergo/Lena Pacholski taking the first point on court 3, defeating Kanela Adamson/Jade Griffin 8-3. The Seasiders knew they will have a chance on remaining two courts, with 1st and 10th best-ranked pairs carrying their banner.
