Back issues keep Wright, Duda out of action

NEW YORK — As if it wasn’t enough of a challenge to face Max Scherzer six days after he struck out 20, the Mets met the Nationals right-hander Tuesday night with two big hitters missing from their lineup.

Already without first baseman Lucas Duda after he complained of a stiff back, the Mets lost third baseman David Wright when his back acted up during batting practice. Eric Campbell replaced Duda, and 25-year-old Matt Reynolds, ranked by MLBPipeline as the Mets’ No. 9 prospect, was called on to make his Major League debut in place of Wright.
