NEW YORK — The New York Mets plan to have left-hander Steven Matz return to the rotation Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers after a brief absence for left forearm soreness.

Matz skipped last Saturday’s start against the Colorado Rockies in Denver after experiencing some discomfort last week. He then received a cortisone injection during an examination by team doctors on Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
