In the main event at UFC 198: Werdum vs. Miocic, the UFC Heavyweight championship is on the line as champion Fabricio Werdum (20-5-1 MMA; 8-2 UFC) faces challenger Stipe Miocic (14-2 MMA; 8-2 UFC). This five round fight caps off the five fight UFC 198 PPV main card. The UFC rankings have Miocic as the #3 contender at Heavyweight, while Werdum is at #4 on the pound for pound list. UFC 198: Werdum vs. Miocic airs live from Curitiba, Brazil this Saturday, May 14. The main card airs on PPV with a fight time of 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT, with the prelims starting at 8:00 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1 and 6:30 p.m. ET on Fight Pass.
It’s a slightly weird road to this fight, as this was originally scheduled as Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez at UFC 196 in February. When Velasquez was injured (again), Miocic was given the fight, only to see Werdum pull out himself citing both injuries and not being comfortable with a short notice opponent. UFC 196 was moved to a Fight Night, and this event, originally scheduled as Fight Night: Belfort vs. Jacare, was bumped up to PPV status with a title fight …
