The tournament in Nice started in 1971, with Ilie Nastase, Manuel Orantes, and Bjorn Borg among the winners. After 1995, there was a break that lasted for 15 years without ATP tennis on beautiful Azure coast before the event was restored in 2010 wth Richard Gasquet as the first Frenchman who was victorious after Henri Leconte in 1988. Last year, Dominic Thiem has won his maiden ATP title here in Nice, and he will be back to defend it, being the first seed. He is free in the first round but that doesn’t mean his first rival is going to be easy to beat, as Jiri Vesely or Leonardo Mayer will against Austrian in round 2. Hyeon Chung and Paul-Henri Mathieu can also play an interesting match in that quarter.
