The tournament in Geneva was held for the first time in 1980 (Borg and Wilander have won the titles in early years) and there were 12 editions before it was canceled in 1991. Last year it was finally restored, at the Tennis Club de Genève at the Parc des Eaux-Vives, the oldest and largest tennis club in Switzerland. Thomaz Bellucci has won the title and he will try to defend it this year as well, carried by his good run from Rome where he managed to bagel world number 1 Novak Djokovic before losing the second and third set. Bellucci’s task will not be easy in any case, with some very solid players looking to leave their mark in the last event before Roland Garros.
Swiss number 2 Stan Wawrinka is the top seed, desperately needing to go far after poor results in Monte Carlo, Madrid and especially Rome where he played a terrible match against Juan Monaco.
