Yankees lose game, and probably Luis Severino

NEW YORK — On paper, the pitching matchup in Friday night’s Yankees-White Sox game was a mismatch — Chicago left-hander Chris Sale (7-0, 1.79 ERA coming in) facing the Yankees’ Luis Severino, who had struggled all year en route to an 0-5 record and 6.12 ERA.
On the field, it was even worse that that. Sale cruised along, giving up four hits and one run to become the majors’ first eight-game winner. Severino got torched again, taking his sixth loss in the Yankees’ 7-1 defeat in the opener of a three-game series.
And to top it off, Severino left the game accompanied by team trainer Stevie Donohue, raising all sorts of disturbing possibilities. The Yankees announced Severino had soreness in the back of his right elbow and would undergo an MRI.
