Mets’ Matz to miss next start with elbow issue

LOS ANGELES — New York Mets left-hander Steven Matz’s start will be skipped on Saturday at Colorado because of elbow soreness, manager Terry Collins said.
Matz pitched six effective innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, but discomfort flared up after the game.
“Yesterday it was pretty sore,” Collins said Wednesday. “It feels much better today, but we’re going to err on the side of caution.”
Collins expects that Matz will remain with the team for the remainder of the Mets’ three-city trip, then be examined by team doctors as soon as Monday in Manhattan.
