Charnley sorry for relegation

Newcastle chief executive Lee Charnley has issued a public apology to supporters for the club’s relegation to the Championship.
The Magpies’ fate was sealed by Sunderland’s victory over Everton on Wednesday that increased the gap between the sides to an insurmountable four points with one game to spare.
Charnley thanked the fans and staff for their support since Rafael Benitez replaced Steve McClaren in March and says planning for next season in the second tier has already begun.
